As part of a series of presentations titled "Mastering Lithography: Tips from the Pros", the talk will be presented virtually from Open Studio in Toronto, Ontario.
Pudy Tong’s memories of his immigrant Canadian childhood are punctuated by the images of large stacks of Chinese newspapers landing on his family’s doorstep every two weeks, air-freighted in from Hong Kong to a small rural town in British Columbia. His print-based art practice draws on elements from journalism as the subject through which our experience of contemporary, media-saturated society is refracted, reinterpreted and re-imagined. He received his BFA from the University of British Columbia Okanagan and an MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Based in Toronto, he works as an instructor and custom printer at Open Studio with a focus in photo-lithography. He has had the privilege of creating prints with artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines including Jenn Law, Erika DeFreitas and Kotama Bouabane.

Print London is excited to present …fire. A lot more fire., curated by distinguished London artist Ron Benner. Please join us between August 21 - 30 for the exhibition and on August 24 for the opening reception, where Ron Benner will give opening remarks.
…fire. A lot more fire. showcases the work of London and area artists who took up the challenge to produce prints in a wide variety of print media - relief, etching, lithography, silkscreen, vitreograph prints - based on a theme of the effects of climate change on the Canadian landscape.
On May 26, 2019 in an article "Wildfires rage while politicians bluster" in the Toronto Star, Mike Flanagan, a professor of wildland fire at the University of Alberta, said, "On average, we're going to see fire. A lot more fire." " ...fire. A lot more fire." became the title of this juried print exhibition. On August 2, 2019 two articles in The Globe and Mail, "Arctic heatwave sparks massive wild fires, surge of greenhouse gases from tundra" and "European heatwave hits Greenland" highlighted the emergency situation which is upon us. In remote areas above the arctic circle there are now over 60 wildfires burning with no human possibility of extinguishing them. The 11 artists in this exhibition have each responded to this crisis in their own way and I thank them for their contribution. We must all work together if we are to survive this century.

This weekend, Tania Love will be presenting the third workshop in Print London's summer program, The Print Garden. Participants will learn how to cut and manipulate (printed) washi into 3D forms as part of a collaborative art installation.
Tania Love is a Toronto based visual artist who takes the cues for her work from the natural and cultural environment. Recipient of numerous grants, international residencies and exhibitions, her work has been seen in public and commercial galleries, popup vitrines and design projects across the globe from her native Toronto and Ontario surrounds, to NYC, France, Poland, Japan and India. In the past year her work was featured in the Toronto Offsite Design Festival at the Craft Ontario Gallery and at Alison Milne Gallery in Toronto.
In recent years Tania's art practice has evolved as a direct response to place, where the season, the palette, natural forms and cultural context have all figured in the realization of specific works. From marbling paper, to hand cut lacework, braiding reclaimed wire, plant tannin prints and cyanotypes, her work nods to traditional processes and expresses innovative outcomes. With a keen interest in the materials she explores, she look towards creating pieces that invite slower rhythms and encourage tactility and relationship to natural cycles.
There are still a few places left in this workshop. Participants will be working with prints made in previous workshops to help build the collaborative art installation at Satellite Project Space.
This workshop was supported by the London Arts Council through the City of London's Community Arts Investment Program. (CAIP). We are thankful for this generous funding. https://www.londonarts.ca/
